ABOUT

The Trust Barometer ® sheds light on corporate South Africa by evaluating companies and CEOs -- as spontaneously mentioned by directors -- on various drivers of reputation and trust. It is the preferred local corporate reputation benchmark as it is relevant to the current business environment. It provides companies with the opportunity to evaluate their reputation against current trends, and determine the impact of these trends on their reputation.

The Ask Afrika Trust Barometer ® has been successful for its fifth time this year since its inception in 2005. It identifies South Africa’s most trusted companies and CEOs. The study is based on a peer review of 200 interviews with CEOs, Exco and senior managers reporting directly to the Exco of JSE-listed companies. Trust Barometer ® 2009 has identified the most trusted companies, CEOs/executives, and asset management companies, as well as the least admired companies currently in South Africa.

In comparison to the Trust Barometer ® 2008, new aspects, exciting spin-offs and new winner categories have been put in place this year. The Trust Barometer ® 2009 offers valuable insights into how the economic slump has taken its toll on the reputation of companies, as well as on how corporate citizenship and ‘green initiatives’ impact on reputation. Furthermore, interesting relationships have been identified between putting in place ‘green values’ and the impact it has on the quality of products and services; the role of a company towards society; and the overall reputation of a company. In addition, a Green Award has been incorporated this year that will be handed to the company that has been the most successful in reducing its impact on the environment. The results of the study has been communicated at the annual conference of Ask Afrika on 18 August at The Venue in Melrose Arch.
